design: Anna

We had the distinct pleasure the other night of getting a quick peek at Anna Cohen's new catalogue. Anna is unique among apparel designers in Portland for a number of reasons. The first is that you may never have seen the work of this Portland artist because she has decided to make her stand in Portland, but refuses to sell in Portland boutiques alone. Secondly, she is likely the only Portland-based designer who has worked in Florence at MaxMara, at Guess and Patrizia Pepe, and come home to work at adidas. Hence, no doubt, her extreme level of professionalism. Lastly, and most interestingly, she has taken the recycled and repurposed mode of design a step further, embracing a sustainable design model that translates into bamboo jersey, organic cotton and hemp wovens in ways you've never seen them before. Cohen makes eco-conscious-wear terribly sexy as you can see at her website.
Just back from New York where she shopped for a showroom and showed her collection, there she was, stunning catalogue in hand. Note: Cohen has had the vision and luck to work with terrific photographers Tim Gunther, Basil Childers, Pete Springer, and Michael Jones. We don't know when all the new photos will be on her website, but when they are, you will see that PDX model Esmerelda steals the show.
